What is the ‘Your Smalls Appeal’ ? Set up January 2016 an initiative and the brain child of Diana Esho. The aim of the initiative is to encourage girls & women in the UK to help other young girls & women in developing countries and local UK charities in a way only they can.
How does it work ? The initiative works through recycling an important item of clothing we take for granted, something thrown away once it is out of fashion or no longer feels comfortable. A vital and essential item used by girls & women everywhere - The Bra !
The Your Smalls Appeal receives all styles of bras and sports bras, then sends them to those in need. Diana Esho was shocked that there are still women in the world who do not have access to this basic item of clothing. Since June 2016 she has sent over 1,000 bras to a medical centre & school in Gambia. Donated by parents’, teachers and local ladies groups connected to the Our Lady's’ Convent School in Loughborough through the Parents’ Association of which Diana is the Chair. Since its initial launch Diana now receives regular donations from ladies contected to local business networking groups of which she is affiliated and generous ladies who have heard about the appeal through various social media platforms and of course the girls and mummies at various schools and colleges
What must be done Girls still miss school and can be seen as a burdan to their families when menstrating. The Your Smalls Appeal now buy reusuable Hygeine Packs made in Gambia by trafficked and sexually exploited girls. This means the money we send stays within the country. The women who make the hygeine packs sell them to the school where the young girls and women go to school and work. The packs then allow the girls to stay at school while menstrating.
Help us all girls walk to school feeling safe, secure and with dignity.
Why it works. It works because it’s simple, it costs nothing to donate and helps the environment ! Join the Brarevolution !
There is nothing greater than when women and girls empower each other
